You are Special

“I will praise You, for I am…wonderfully made.” Ps 139:14 NKJV Sarah Hupp writes: “Did you know you started out as a single cell, and within that cell was enough DNA to hold the equivalent of 1,000 volumes of coded blueprints? Or that [the DNA in that one cell] determined the color of your hair and eyes, the shape of your nose, and the size of your ring finger? Did you know nobody else has your fingerprints…the same sparkling eyes…the same laugh…or looks at things the way you do? You’re an … [Read more...]

Do Not Give Ground to the Devil

“Do not give the devil an opportunity.” Eph 4:27 NAS The Bible says, “Do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity” (vv. 26-27 NAS). The word translated “opportunity” is the Greek word topos, the same term from which we get the English noun topography. It means territory or ground. And anger gives ground to the Devil. Bitterness invites him to occupy a space in your heart. And when you do, he will move in and stink up the place with things like gossip, … [Read more...]

We’re All on the Same Team

“The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.” Lk 6:38 CEV Jesus said, “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults…That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging” (Mt 7:1-2 MSG). Think about it. Do you really want to live your life judging and being judged? One Christian author puts it this way: “We were created to be in community…[Not] treat each other with a spirit of judgment…There’s something in us that permits us to vie for a better impression of … [Read more...]

Cry Out to God

“In my distress I cried out to the Lord.” Ps 18:6 NLT There are times in life when the best thing you can do is cry out to God from the depths of your being. Don’t worry about looking undignified, or having people think you have no faith. The psalmist said, “In my distress I cried out to the Lord…[and] He heard me.” Every parent knows that cry. It’s different; it’s not a temper tantrum or a whine for attention, it’s a cry of distress. And though it comes in the dead of night, before you know … [Read more...]

Who is Your Jonah?

“Pick me up and throw me into the sea…and it will become calm.” Jnh 1:12 NIV When Jonah boarded a ship going in the opposite direction to God’s will, the crew discovered there’s a high price to pay for allowing the wrong person into your life. So what’s the point? It’s this: God hasn’t authorized you to be somebody else’s life support system. Especially if they’re running from Him, and using you to do it! With Jesus on board you’ll make it through any storm. But when you allow Jonah on board … [Read more...]

Deal With Your Sin

“He was manifested to take away our sins.” 1Jn 3:5 When you refuse to confront your sins and deal with them, you become a well-marked target for the Enemy. And by looking at someone else and saying, “I would never do that,” you fail to build a safeguard against it. “If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall” (1Co 10:12 NLT). You never thought you could get that angry, or have an affair, or lie to your boss, or cheat in your finances. And because you never thought you could, … [Read more...]

Stop Making Excuses

“Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Ro 12:2 NLT Sometimes our culture markets misinformation and half-truths. And since our parents grew up in that culture, they handed us the same guide for interpreting life. As a result, we may have arrived at these three mistaken conclusions: (1) There’s a special person out there who will make me happy. Only God can do that! Hurting people only hurt other people. “Out of the abundance of the heart [the] mouth speaks” (Lk … [Read more...]

Ask for a Dream (Part 4)

“I will provide for you.” Ge 45:11 NKJV The dream God gave Joseph was not about feeling good because he was now the number two guy in Egypt, but about positioning him to feed his family and the world in time of famine. Don’t miss the point here. When God gives you a dream, it will bless you—and others. The Bible says, “God so loved the world” (Jn 3:16). God’s plan is not to make you an icon, but an instrument to fulfill His will. From Joseph’s family would come the Redeemer of the world, but … [Read more...]

Ask for a Dream (Part 3)

“Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him.” Ge 37:5 NKJV The story of Joseph teaches that success can cause others to mistreat you. Not everyone will celebrate your success, including some of those closest to you. When Jesus’ fame began to spread, the first people to reject Him were from the town He grew up in. It caused Him to say, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country” (Mt 13:57 NKJV). The Bible says of Joseph, “His brothers envied him” (Ge … [Read more...]

Ask for a Dream (Part 2)

“Then he dreamed still another dream.” Ge 37:9 NKJV If you’ve already fulfilled the dream God gave you, ask Him for another one. A bigger one. The Bible says, “Joseph dreamed another dream.” And the second was bigger than the first. In the first dream he saw sheaves of wheat on the ground bowing down to him, but in the second dream he saw stars in the heavens bowing down to him. Ask God to lift your sights and cause you to aim higher. But a note of caution: Before God will give you another … [Read more...]
